Hello! I’m Mícheál, originally from the UK, but with an Irish passport thanks to my good parents. For the best part of 26 years I was based in Japan, but in December of 2022, my wife and I sold our house in Kobe and moved to Portugal. Currently, we are living in the Alfama district of Lisbon — right next to the Castelo de São Jorge.
Some things I have done prior to coming to Portugal are:
- Completed three years on the JET program in Fukushima, Japan
- Passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at the N1 level
- Got myself a Masters in Translation Studies from Dublin City University, Ireland
- Completed a 6-month translation fellowship with the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva
At some point I should probably write about some of those things. But for now, I will focus on our life in Portugal as we slowly but surely find our feet…
