Should you ever be in Dublin and feeling thoroughly stressed out by the things life throws at you, may I suggest a horse and buggy ride around the Georgian district.
You can board a buggy in Merrion Square and the driver will take you on a tour (the length of your choosing) taking in all the elegant, old, architectural highlights.
He’ll point things out to you along the way, giving you all the historical details and such. But that is not the point of this tour. The point is to enjoy the breeze on your face and the slow, gentle rythym of the ride. It really is so peaceful and calming.
We had a delightful ride around Dublin, one of my best experiences there in fact, so I do recommend it.
However, there’s an ongoing licensing issue in Dublin at the moment, which is having a detrimental effect on the horse-drawn carriage business. That’s a shame and it should be sorted out so that everyone can enjoy this wodnerful experience without having to worry about a lack of appropriate care for the animals or other disreputable practices. To be sure you are supporting good and reputable drivers before you take a ride, check out this link for some tips.
